A couple weeks before Christmas always seem to be very full and busy and this week was no exception: A couple of lunches with friends, my book club‘s annual Christmas gathering, my monthly volunteering serving dinner at the homeless shelter, two doctors’appointments, the annual Woodland Christmas parade on Saturday with Kim and family and friends, and my Church’s annual Christmas dinner on Sunday. Whew!! In between I fit in some Christmas shopping, and some baking.
Sky and Colton both found friends at the church dinner.
Colton accompanied me to the Beamer Street homeless shelter where we served dinner. The girls have gone with me previously, but this was Colton’s first time, and he enjoyed it enough that he said he wanted to do it again that made Lala (that’s me) very happy!
I managed only one bike ride during the week, which is not enough to keep up my conditioning, but did go to the gym to ride the bikes a couple of times. The weather here has been very cold and damp and lots of fog. Absolutely no sunshine for three weeks! I can’t say that I really enjoy riding my bike in the winter anyway, but it’s part of the price I pay to maintain my ability to ride all year round.
My shortness of breath and cough continues to be an issue, more so in the cold, damp air. I think I had previously mentioned that I have been diagnosed with COPD, which turns out to be the cause of my shortness of breath, not my lung tumors as previously believed.. When I saw my pulmonologist this week, he said that he thought that the cough is a continuation of the cold I’ve had for four weeks and could continue for another few weeks and that, hopefully, the inhaler medication that he gave me will prove beneficial after that.
My body, which has been such a loyal participant in my good health for my whole life, seems to be letting me down. In addition to the pulmonologist, I saw a sports medicine doc this week for ongoing pain in both shoulders, and was given a Cortizone injection in my right shoulder, The pain in my right shoulder was relieved within four days. He’s also referred me to physical therapy, although I don’t know when I’m going to fit in more physical therapy exercise, as I’m still doing the ones for my hip from a couple months ago.
I did venture out on my bicycle with the group this morning, with many layers of clothing, and managed to not get too cold. It was nice to be on my bike and to see everyone, in spite of the inclement weather.
